San Vicente de la Sonsierra is situated 35 km from Logroño, 11 km from Haro, 4 km from Briones, and 5 km from Labastida. It is one of La Rioja’s main wine-producing municipalities, with over 1,700 hectares of vineyards and around twenty wineries, including some of the most prestigious in the region.

The hotel is in the town's historic center, with winding streets and stone houses adorned with family crests, developed around a medieval castle on the former border between Castile and Navarre. The castle ruins remain atop a hill with breathtaking views of the valley. Alongside the castle stands the Gothic church of Santa María la Mayor, visible from afar, with a remarkable Renaissance altarpiece and a seven-sided tower built to withstand strong winds. Nearby, you’ll find the small chapel of San Juan de la Cerca, home to the Brotherhood of the Disciplinants of the Vera Cruz, whose members participate in the “Picaos” procession, the only one of its kind still observed in Spain.

San Vicente also features a beautiful medieval bridge over the River Ebro and two quaint villages, Peciña and Rivas de Tereso, nestled at the base of the Toloño Mountains. Near Peciña, you’ll find the Romanesque chapel of Santa María de la Piscina. The surrounding fields boast archaeological sites, medieval necropolises, stone shelters, and ancient wine presses, forming a rich historical and ethnographic heritage.

Nearby, Labastida (in Álava) and Briones are well worth a visit, with Briones being home to one of the world’s most important wine museums. Haro, with its historic center, tapas bars, and famous wine district, is less than ten minutes away by car and is one of La Rioja’s three most prominent municipalities and one of Spain’s top wine hubs.
